In dem schot­ti­schen Dorf Fer­ness wird Öl gefun­den. Plötz­lich ist die­ses klei­ne Dorf nicht nur für Schau­lus­ti­ge inter­es­sant, son­dern auch für Ölmil­lionre. Hap­per, Chef eines Ölkon­zerns, will in Fer­ness eine Raf­fi­ne­rie errich­ten las­sen. Doch sein Ange­stell­ter Mac­In­ty­re und er stos­sen auf Wider­wil­len bei den Ein­woh­nern. Aller­dings ist Hap­per von die­ser wun­der­schö­nen Land­schaft so ange­tan, dass er sein eigent­li­ches Anlie­gen bald vergisst!
